In 1976, Ernesto Drangosch moves to Ibiza to participate in the Handicraft Fair (known as the Hippy Market). The success of his work on amethyst (a semiprecious stone from Uruguay) allowed him to significantly increase his income during the summers of 1976 and 1977.
A new phase begins in Drangosch’s pictorial work that opens with the series of bathers, inspired by the beach life on the island. This series begins a long reflection on the work of Picasso – in this case the bathers of the 1920-30s (PICASSO_dossier-de-presse_EN.pdf (mba-lyon.fr) / Musée Picasso Paris (museepicassoparis.fr). Ernesto Drangosch devoted himself like Picasso to subjecting the female figure “to the most radical stylistic manipulations.”
His painting are filled with the light of the Meditarrenaen, with women on the beach, in lighter or more vivid colors, in more invented forms.
